I live in a state with low overall population, and with a high percentage of hard-right folks.
While that's pretty grating overall, it does mean that we're wide-open for vaccinations now. Anyone over 16, no conditions. My 18-year-old son has an appointment today.
The news today about Pfizer's results in the 12-16 age group makes me really happy, since I have a 15-year-old son and we've been trying to figure out how to best handle that. Hopefully they open those up soon.
I'd imagine having family members resist is a struggle, luckily I don't have any of that in my parents. Around where I live, my take is "don't want it? get out of line. good luck; have fun."
I'd like to be more patient and understanding for those afflicted with Facebook mindworms, but I just don't really fucking care anymore. I'm not going to undo that misinformation machine.

Felt like complete garbage all day Monday but woke up yesterday feeling amazing. I do think a lot of it is psychological. Subsiding fear mixed with the excitement of getting to hang out with friends and family again sometime soon.
It is such psychological burden lift, I completely agree here.
Fucking hell man, I only had a sore arm after my first shot but I am LAID OUT today after my second shot. Let me strongly recommend that you schedule yourself an off day after you get your second shot. I've been laying in bed all day shivering and barely able to function.
The second shots can be brutal based on all reports.
I had the NovaVax stuff (slightly different immune trigger than the Pfizer/Moderna mRNA), and 12 hours after the second shot I was in bad shape, sweaty and insomniac all night. I spent the whole next day crashed on the couch watching Netflix, I couldn't even pretend to work from home.
~36 hours after the shot I was mostly better, just tired.
Plan ahead for a couple of days of downtime after that second shot, and if it's no big deal, you're feeling lucky and get two days back.
How soon would you feel ready for the following situations, assuming that you are fully vaccinated?:
1. Attending a small gathering at a friend's house.
2. Hosting a small gathering at your own house.
3. Playing games with randos at a game store.
4. Attending a large game convention.
I'd probably do all of them, but I will only invite vaccinated people to my own home until my kids get vaccinated at some unknown point in the near future.
Actually I wouldn't do number 3, because I wouldn't do that ever, anyway.
It seems like there's more evidence you do not transmit the virus if vaccinated. That should make most of those pretty safe if you game with only vaccinated people.
We’ve already made plans to visit with friends one week after we’ve all had our second dose. Last night I made plane reservations for the Spawn to visit her grandparents 2 weeks after her second dose. I’ve been looking at flying down myself a few weeks after mine.
A friend booked an appointment for me next week about a 3 hour drive away, but I figured I could do better--after refreshing a handful of sites like a madman the last couple days, I did secure a J&J one-and-done shot about an hour's drive away for Thursday midday. My daughter is overjoyed, she's been very worried about me now that mom's been safe for a couple weeks.
A bit of advice. Don't be arrogant regarding how crappy you will feel after getting vaccinated. You may feel fine, but you may literally not be able to get out of bed the next day. Prepare. Have gel ice pack in your freezer, Tylenol on hand, and stock up on sick bed food. And don't leave a bunch of chores undone, thinking you will be able to get to them - like make sure you didn't leave wet laundry in the dryer.
I am scheduled to get the second shot on Saturday the 17th. A close friend is returning to the Twin Cities for a couple of weeks, and wants to meet up on the 25th. He has only gotten the first shot so far, and I won't have receive the full benefit of the second shot until maybe May 1st, but I think I will take the chance so we can play some board games.
Got an appointment for my first Moderna shot next week. It's an hour drive and I won't get the second until at least 28 days later but I'll take what I can get.

You already know you're getting Funky Cold Moderna ? I thought you didn't know what you were getting til you get there. I am scheduled for my first shot of...something....tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
