Playing D&D content with DCC

The new two-volume Goodman Games update of Temple of Elemental Evil for 5th edition has me very interested... but I'd rather play it with DCC as opposed to getting D&D books. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on how much effort would be involved trying to translate stats, damage, etc. over to DCC? Perhaps there are character / class combinations that are incompatible?

Better yet, maybe I could just use that content in Mork Borg.

General rule of thumb is that every DCC level is two D&D levels. So D&D 4th level equals DCC 2nd level.

Other than that, no opinion. Use the system that inspires you most.

It’s doable…DCC isn’t THAT much different, really. You could probably just convert it on the fly, mostly. Maybe run Hommlet as a funnel? Remember that DCC is sort of a synthesis of B/X and 3e….the DNA is the same. Some of the numbers don’t line up (like the levels Dysjunct mentioned) but you can wing it. I would definitely run the original module though (also included in the book) and not the 5e conversion.

Another option if you don’t want to run with D&D…you could totally run the original version with Whitehack (a $5 book), Basic Fantasy, or even Knave, all with minimal if any conversion.

So excited about the book…the other OAR books are outstanding and I would rank them as the jewels of my collection. They are better to own than the original modules IMO and I wish they would do more. I’ve run 5E and OSE games out of them. Their 5e conversions are top notch. Keep on the Borderlands is greatly expanded and elaborated on, it’s been a total blast to run. Lost City also has a lot of expanded content that fleshes out all the stuff that just didn’t fit into the old module format. As much I love Tales from the Yawning Portal and Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh, Goodman’s take on the vintage material is simply better.

LOL Mork Borg would totally work IF you are willing to get loose and keep it off the cuff. Lots of improv and making up on the spot rulings. I think it would be fun.

Hommlet as a funnel would be neat. Make the initial party of adventurers a mob of pitchfork and torch wielding villagers of Hommlet. Character classes? Butcher, baker, and candlestick maker.
