We've been playtesting a Blades In the Dark/TSR Marvel Super Heroes (FASERIP) mash-up, absolutely FILLED with nostalgic geekery, where you play a crew of Marvel Villains in 80's New York. Most of the kinks are worked out, and it's absolutely free. If you aren't already familiar with FASERIP or BitD, it's pretty easy to work out from the downloads and videos. Have fun!

I've yet to be wooed by RPGs but this comes SUPER close to convincing me. Great job!

There's incalculable depths of fun to be had in an RPG! The narratives that unfold are astoundingly engaging, mostly because you yourself, as a player, have guided the plots.
You can experience & enjoy it casually, but at heart it's a lifestyle gaming system.

In my experience, RPGs really boil down to how good the GM is. A good GM will run a good session, with players of any skill level, and of any demeanor (except absolute ogres, of which there are too many in the world). A party of good players, however, really can't make up for a mediocre GM.Dr. Mabuse wrote: I've yet to be wooed by RPGs

That may very well be true, but in my case I use to collect the Marvel Superheroes RPG as a teen so I'm familiar with the FASERIP system to some degree. It's getting to play as a Z-grade Marvel villian in the 80's (Bullseye excluded) that intrigues me.
It reminds me of the time I read storylines with the villain Mastermind going up against the original Xmen to my kids and then reading them The Phoenix Saga. Or anytime comic book writers take a weakly developed character and turns them into a force majeur. Exciting stuff!

Heh. I put Bullseye in there as a sample character for the players who might not be willing to embrace the Z-grade losers.
