I have the first English edition, and feel all subsequent editions are garish and ugly. Sadly, very few people will play my copy, as they can't adjust to the more subtle artwork.

It looks almost identical to the previous 3D edition except that one came in a nicer wooden box.

That seems to be the case with everyone who owns the previous 3D edition. Like, they save it for special occasions or something, so they never play it much.

We had a copy of the old one at my store, it was pretty cool. At the time the price seemed utterly outrageous. The new one doesn’t look as good, doesn’t include Cities and Knights, and is somehow even more outrageously priced.

In the PR I got about it, it says that Klaus Teuber himself sculpted the pieces.
While researching this, I also discovered that Google hates Klaus Teuber:
