I am with you, if you are really eating it in a number of scenarios in a row it might be worth a restart with new/better builds. Losing badly in this game is not fun. Losing is fun, but not when you're just hobbled extremely quickly.

I am going to disagree with you slightly here. If you are of the mindset that you are going to play a campaign many times (and get your money's worth so to speak), flailing and failing through an entire campaign, becoming increasingly more and more hobbled, to the bitter end when you totally fail and bring about the end of the world as we know it, can absolutely be fun. Because of the branching story lines, you will get a really different story, that you will never see if you are even moderately successful.

But after you do that once, you do want to be more successful on subsequent plays to experience the other story lines.

And then you want to play again and make some different choices, to get another, different experience.

For example, we have played Path to Carcosa 4 times, plus several of false starts. It wasn't until out last try that we got all the way to the end and succeed. And there are still story lines in there that we haven't seen.

I have fond memories of of an early solo Jenny run of Carcosa where I picked up three mental trauma in a single scenario and had to hard pivot my deck build in response. I was actually doing pretty well in the penultimate scenario but got xp greedy and got swarmed and knocked out as a result.

So, yeah, I’d agree that failure can be interesting in Arkham so long as you don’t feel helpless to come back from it.
