I read this somewhere and it made sense to me - given the way Covid was politicized, we'll hit the limit of simple good-sense vaccinations pretty soon (if we haven't already), at which point it's going to have to be carrot and stick. Enter a chance to win a brand new car if you get a shot. or sit in the corner with the other plague rats at your next football game if you don't.

It frustrates me immensely that my state won't allow us to require it of college students. We already require a bunch of other vaccinations.

Now the CDC says vaccinated people no longer need to mask up, anywhere. I expect that the "You must wear a mask" signs will quickly disappear. Not that they were being obeyed much, anyway.

The military isn't requiring it now. I remember my boot camp experience was that they marched the whole company to a processing center, and I got shots in my left and right arms, simultaneously, multiple times, with that hypodermic gun. Nobody asked me if I wanted the shots. Hell, they didn't even tell me what they were. Rights? You signed those away when you signed up. IIRC, that's how it works.

The military exemption (and likely the college too) is because all the vaccines are still on "emergency use" criteria, rather than "officially approved".

While that sounds like some wingnut shit, it makes a difference in what people can be compelled to do. Once one of these goes into general release, expect everybody in the military and every college student to be on the end of a requirement.

(But faculty is generally totally different. I remember being required to get a shot when I enrolled in classes while I was working at a University, and saying "I've been here on this campus every day for years, and now this is important?")

I hear you. But our governor sent an executive order saying AZ colleges can't require them so... a full bill is probably not far behind.

Yeah, somehow these days no matter how stupid something might be, there's a governor lining up to say "hold my beer".

Pushing policies that are potentially fatal to the biggest block of your demographic doesn't seem like a good political play, and yet here we are.

I got invited to a big birthday party that will be on June 5th. 28 have already RSVPed and there are another 27 maybes. Only catch is that attendees need to show a vaccination card with the final shot at least 14 days before the party. I reached that stage on May 1st, so I am good to go, but it will probably feel strange to be at a crowded party with a few dozen unmasked people.

I think I am going to feel pretty weird being around others without masks on.

I've adapted to masks being part of my wardrobe. I have a stylish Italian flag one since I drive a Fiat and it I would miss wearing it around.

The general effectiveness of masks, hand-washing, and social distancing has really underscored for me how fucking disgusting all these germ-spewing meat bags are.

Now that the CDC said fuck it who cares about masks only idiots wear masks am I right my state has followed suit, and I'm feeling pretty not great about it. Theoretically if you're not vaccinated youre still required to wear a mask but I sure don't see anyone out here checking vaccine cards.
