(And, yes, I know Peart wasn't the drummer on this one.)

My view on Rush has completely improved as I came to reject the 90s "authenticity" era of music I grew up in my most critical years in.

My father-in-law (recently retired music teacher) and I have been getting together and singing shanties lately. There's something about simple songs with easy harmonies. Plus you have an excuse to drink rum.

Bringing back HARD Assassin's Creed: Black Flag memories. The people they had performing those were very good too.

I'm trying to get back to the point where I can have music in the background while I'm writing. I used to do it all the time when I was younger and I think it colored some of my better stuff. I still hear certain tracks and immediately think of a script I was writing. But for years now, it's just been a distraction. It takes me off what I'm writing because I'm interested in what I'm hearing.

So, I decided to listen to some music that was specifically intended for backgrounds but still had some character to it: ambient music from WoW.

I know: total nerd stuff. But some of the music that they put together is really great, especially from Cataclysm and Pandaria (the last expansions where I was seriously playing.) The best is still from Northrend/Wrath of the Lich King, but a lot of it is really good atmospheric stuff, just as intended.

Watched an okay documentary recently, by the name of Brian Eno - 1971 1977: The Man Who Fell To Earth (2012). But I'm bringing it up here instead of in the movie thread, because of one amazing song. Oh, and Eno and a friend from his art school days came up with a deck of 113 cards they called Oblique Strategies. When you reach a creative block, you draw an Oblique Strategy card from the deck and hope that it sparks inspiration.

Anyway, before he came up with Oblique Strategies, Eno did an album based on a series of Chinese postcards, and the album has the awesome name Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy). One song from this album jumped out at me as amazing:

Third Uncle debuted in 1974. but it was an influential song that seemed to foreshadow the whole post-punk movement. I hear echoes of it in Gang of Four, Talking Heads, and Sonic Youth. Also, Third Uncle is a good driving song, at least if you drive like I do.
