I'm not sure if I'm doing one. Maybe I will.

But I did recently write about Unmatched at Ars Technica: arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/12/unmatched...o-deck-construction/

And Android Netrunner Terminal Directive at my site: playerelimination.com/2019/12/16/flatlin...al-directive-review/

Not sure if I should do one or not, I've never tackled that kind of article which probably means I should give it a shot.

I've got a look at my collection coming, a review of patchwork (getting through my collection), review of Circle Undone core for Arkham and then into the Beyond the Veil's for that series. Forgotten Age is just about finished on the site, last one goes up today.

No top 5 for me. It would just consist of Star Wars: Outer Rim, and only because I think I'm getting it for Christmas.

I wrote a piece over on my blog about some conjunction of the OSR and my own thoughts on the role nostalgia plays in gaming. I'm not sure if it's particularly coherent, but I think it's got some good nuggets in there. You can read it on my blog .

"Theel's Feels" LMAO, that ones a keeper.

I haven't played a single one of your top 10, but all of them look enjoyable.

Michael Barnes came up with that one a year or two ago and I never used it. Finally decided it was time.

A critique of Tank Duel - playerelimination.com/2020/01/23/a-tank-...e-crosshairs-review/

I have this thing where I like to be diving into and evaluating one GMT game at a time on my review pile (usually takes me about 2 months to review), and now that I'm finished up with Tank Duel I'm still all kinds of conflicted over Nevsky. I'd totally be in if it was 4 player.

^this is an awesome review. I've only read accounts from pretty experienced dedicated wargamers on Tank Duel, which seems to be going over well in that crowd---how did none of them mention:

"Death in Tank Duel is tragic primarily from a perspective of victory points. It undermines any emotional investment by allowing players to respawn immediately. It’s oddly cavalier about casualty and is more concerned with providing a well-rounded and safe (read: modern) experience that keeps everyone involved."

Most of the comments I've seen on the game are focused around discussing the game as a set of mechanisms, particularly in how it achieves simulation. This view though is odd to me as the game is not a cold and lifeless machine. The respawning mechanism at its core is an element which undermines the narrative and weakens the experience.

My wargaming genes are very narrative focused so this is a huge turnoff of Tank Duel. It's why I'm willing to put up with a mechanical shambles like Fields of Fire and secretly think it's one of the best wargames ever in need of a well paid, skilled, developer.

I did a brief writeup of Leaving Earth on Reddit, more of a spontaneous confession than anything planned and it apparently was a zinger. I usually get one or two upvotes for my stuff there.

So I've written up a full review for here which should be done soon. Really a very interesting game that sort of fell in my lap. I had been looking at it and even had a brief conversation on it here with Charlie, but it's been hard to find. A guy offered it in trade for Silent Victory, which I was done with. So magic, it's on the doorstep three days later.

For those looking for the "short" version (at least on the Sag Scale) it's here -- www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/erw...hings_in_orbit_with/
