Nevsky

Anyone of you tried Volko's new non-COIN design, Nevsky? I know there's a few playtester/early version wargame types here.

I find the idea of actually representing strategic early feudal warfare as the herding cats thing it actually was is extremely intriguing as a premise.

Downloaded the rules for perusal. No knowledge of this particular topic but I'll keep an open mind. I haven't dipped into the COIN waters and don't feel bad that I'm letting that pass me by, doesn't have the appearance of a good fit for me.

I read the rules too. This seems more direct than COIN to me, less overly incremental.

Looks like a lot of the strategy revolves around rotating in and out various feudal lords for their dues and getting enough loot to extend lords who you really need at critical moments.

Also, if you read the AARs on this, going on the attack is brutal in this game for the same reason as real life---forage and supply is incredibly difficult, so campaigns with big armies are pretty limited.

Mark Herman is a big fan, wrote a big thread on strategy on BGG.

I'm looking forward to it, I've got it on order with a friendly local game shop.
