The way the character cards are used for Health, Movement , and Combat is so clever and just works so well in that game.

MEQ is on the list, 6th from the top.

At this point I'd probably give the nod to Star Wars: Outer Rim, which is very much "my kind of game." It's the Star Wars game I have always wanted, at least. Not perfect, but very much what I like.

But BSG definitely gave me the most hours of fun. I don't think I need to ever play it again, but it was a game-changer for my engagement with board games.

Middle Earth Quest was a near miss for me, but even then it was a fascinating miss. Others like Starcraft and Runewars were compelling even though I only got to try them once.

On either a per ounce or per dollar basis, Space Hulk: Death Angel is probably the best game in my collection.

Rune Age is still one of the best, if not the best, deckbuilders that I've played. I love Runewars, even with the clunky hero system, because there are so many other good parts about it, like the season cards. I enjoyed the one game of Outer Rim I've played and the few dozen Space Hulk: Death Angel games.

I thought the update to Warrior Knights was really well done, although I don't know which parts were his. I also really liked the "cards as life" mechanic in MEQ, but it felt like the game demanded so much from players as Tolkien fans that it was just too difficult to rope in anyone from my crowd. BSG somehow never hit it for us.

So, yeah, I'm interested in his work, but this latest offering is way outside of what I'm currently looking for in a game, so I think I'll wait for the next one.

I don't think that Death Angel would ever hit the dollars-to-enjoyment ratio for me of games like Tichu or Innovation, but it's also a great design. I love how distinctive it is from its source material, while still really hitting the same atmosphere and tension.
